Frequently Asked Questions

Application & Procedures

A. Even if you meet all the eligibility requirements and submit complete and accurate documents, visa approval is not guaranteed. The final decision rests solely with the Malaysian government. During the review process, you may be requested to resubmit certain documents or provide additional supporting materials if necessary.

A. The conditional approval letter issued by the Immigration Department of Malaysia is valid for six (6) months from the date of issuance. If you do not enter Malaysia within this period, your PVIP visa cannot be endorsed. Should you wish to proceed after the validity period has expired, you will need to submit a new application under the same process.
If there is a valid reason that prevents you from travelling to Malaysia within the validity period of the conditional approval letter, you may apply for an extension. However, approval of the extension is subject to the discretion of the Malaysian government.

A. The process generally takes 3 to 5 working days. A typical schedule is as follows:
Day 1: Medical check-up at a local clinic, purchase of medical insurance, and collection of fixed deposit-related documents. (This usually takes about half a day. Your passport will be collected on this day.)
Day 2: We will submit your documents to the PVIP Office. (This is a free day for you. The PVIP Office may keep your passport for 2–3 working days for visa endorsement.)
Day 4: The visa will be endorsed, and your passport returned to you.
Day 5: Reserved as a buffer day.

*The fixed deposit account must be opened in person at a bank in Malaysia. If the required funds are transferred while you are still in Malaysia after opening the account, the entire visa endorsement process can be completed in a single visit.
However, if the fund transfer cannot be made from Malaysia due to personal circumstances, you may return to your home country to complete the transfer and travel to Malaysia again to finalise the procedures.

A. You can request from the embassy of your current living country.

A. Please send the original copy to us and we will do certified English translation in Malaysia.

A. Applications for the PVIP must be submitted through an officially licensed PVIP agent approved by the Malaysian government. Direct applications by individuals are not accepted.

A. The standard processing time is approximately 60 working days, but it may vary depending on the government’s review workload and the time of submission.

Visa Basics & Policy

A. No. The PVIP is a long-term residence visa, which is different from permanent residency or citizenship. Holding a PVIP does not lead to eligibility for Permanent Residency or Malaysian citizenship.
However, the PVIP offers exceptional flexibility — it allows a 20-year stay, is renewable, permits employment and business activities, does not require property ownership, and has no minimum stay requirement. In this sense, it is one of the visa programmes most similar to permanent residency in terms of long-term stability and lifestyle freedom.

A. Yes, you may terminate the PVIP at any time. For further details and assistance with the termination process, please contact us.

A. You may either receive the interest into the account (interest payout) or compound it to the principal (auto-renew with interest). Please consult the bank for available options. Currently, interest income is tax-exempt.

Medical & Insurance

A. Applicants under 60 are required to purchase medical insurance in Malaysia. Insurance purchase is mandatory for the first year.

A. The check-up is based on the government-prescribed medical report form and is interview-based. It primarily confirms the presence/absence of mental illness and infectious diseases.

A. Foreign residents in Malaysia usually seek treatment at private hospitals, which offer a high standard of care and English-speaking staff.
Please note that medical costs at private hospitals can be relatively high, so it’s advisable to check your insurance coverage in advance. In most cases, insurance covers inpatient treatment, while minor illnesses are typically treated at nearby clinics.

Dependants, Stay Requirements & Renewal

A. Yes. After the main applicant obtains the visa, you can apply to add a spouse and/or children as dependants. Additional documents and fees are required.
Eligible dependants:

  • Spouse
  • Unmarried children or adopted children under 25
  • Children with disabilities (no age limit)
  • Parents (no age limit)
  • Foreign domestic helper

A. No. Only a legally married spouse is eligible as a dependant. However, it is possible for each person to apply separately as individual applicants.

A. Once your child reaches the age of 25, they will no longer qualify as a dependant under the PVIP.

A. No, there is no minimum stay requirement for PVIP holders. You are free to enter and leave Malaysia at any time during the validity of your visa.

A. In principle they are the same; however, new conditions may apply due to policy updates.
*Fixed-deposit related documents must be the latest version. You do not need to place a new fixed deposit.

Business, Daily Life & Others

A. Yes. PVIP holders are allowed to work in Malaysia, establish a local company, and conduct business or investment activities freely.

A. No, a separate work permit is not required. PVIP holders are permitted by the Malaysian government to work, manage businesses, and engage in investment activities. Therefore, if you work for a company that you have established and operate yourself, you do not need to apply for an additional employment pass.
However, standard business registration procedures — such as company registration with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and tax registration — are still required. In addition, if your business involves employing foreign staff or operating under a licensed sector, approval from the relevant authorities may be necessary.

A. The corporate tax rate ranges from 15% to 24%, depending on the size and annual turnover of the company.

A. It is possible to import a car, but high import duties are usually imposed, so it is not recommended. Foreigners can purchase cars in Malaysia without any problem.

A. Yes. Property purchase is not a requirement for obtaining the PVIP, but holders are free to purchase residential, commercial, or industrial properties in Malaysia, subject to the minimum purchase price set by the respective State Government.
